Finished!! – Dog Gone Cute Quilt & Blog Hop

First of all, I want to thank Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts for letting me participate in this blog hop! This quilt is so darn cute and I just love it! I’m going to recap my entire process from collecting supplies to the finished quilt. You can click on any of the photos for a larger version. šŸ™‚

As I was deciding what fabrics to use, my fat quarter bundle of Hello Darling by Bonnie & Camille arrived. I decided this bundle would be perfect for this quilt and boy, was I right! I also used Hello Darling – Red Wildflowers for the backing, Hello Darling – Green Dainty for the binding and Kona Solids – Ash for the background.

Next, I printed out my pattern and reviewed all the instructions. I’m forever jumping into a project thinking I know what I’m doing and then completely messing everything up, so I wanted to be sure this time! šŸ™‚

Time to make the blocks! I decided to make the 12-block version of the quilt, so I knew I needed one each of the pre-planned blocks and then I was going to have to make four more of my own. Here are the blocks I made:

After all my blocks were done, I laid them all out on my living room floor to determine the best layout. Of course, I had to text pictures to my husband at work to get an opinion from his architect brain. Here’s what we came up with:

Out of my background fabric, I cut the sashing and borders. I sewed the blocks into rows, added the sashing, sewed the rows together and added the border. Here’s my completed quilt top:

I had picked another fabric for the backing, but when I cut it, I messed up and cut it wrong. I’m a dummy! I ordered more fabric and managed to cut it correctly the second time. Fortunately, I’m working on another quilt that will work with the shorter backing. šŸ™‚ I sandwiched the quilt and started thinking about how I wanted to quilt it. At first, I was going to go with diagonal straight line quilting, but then I decided to stitch in the ditch on the horizontal rows only. I added the binding and it’s done!

  1. These pups look great in the fabrics you chose. I like the one with the green and red flowers and it’s giving me ideas for fabrics to use on some of my future blocks. Great job on your quilt.

  2. You had me at “Hello Darling.” It really made for some super cute puppies. The Ash background couldn’t be any more perfect. It allows all the bright colors of the Daring fabric to sing.

  3. Oh, your quilt turned so super sweet! I have been enjoying following your progress. You chose the perfect fabrics for this, Laurel. Love the straight line quilting. And the scrumptious pop of that green binding!

  4. Super cute fabric choices, lovely, sunny, happy! I too made my share of cutting errors, thank goodness for more projects that can use up the leftovers! Glad to know I’m in good company, I so appreciate your sharing!
