Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival

I just realized I never posted here with my good news about my Snapshots quilt! Oh a whim, I decided to submit it for consideration for the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, which is held in Hampton, VA every year. A few weeks ago, I received a letter from them and I said to my husband, “Oh here’s my rejection letter!” but it wasn’t a rejection!

MAQF Acceptance Letter for Snapshots Quilt

I delivered Snapshots to the show early last week and then the wait began! I had a beginning free-motion quilting class on Thursday, which was so much fun. The teacher was Ashley Nickels and she was so great! Here are some of the samples I made in the class:

During our lunch break, I fast-walked through the show floor to find my quilt. I ended up not winning a prize, but I felt like a Best of Show winner when I saw it hanging up there! ❤ ❤ ❤

These two ladies were inspecting her when I walked up, so I prevailed on them to take a picture of me with my quilt. They were more than happy to oblige. ❤

So, all in all it was a super fun day! It was amazing to see my quilt hanging up with so many other gorgeous quilts and my free-motion class was a blast! 🙂

Finished!! – Heart Wall Quilt

I finished up my Heart Wall Quilt yesterday!! The red binding is completely perfect and I just love how the whole thing looks! It’s also covering up our not-so-attractive fireplace, so it’s a total win-win! ❤

Finished Heart Wall Quilt

This is my second finish for the 2016 Finish-A-Long Q1!

In Progress – Heart Wall Quilt

It’s been a week since my last post! Sick kids and general busyness have kept me from my computer and sewing machine! 🙂

I did find time to finish up the top for my Heart Wall Quilt:

I got the additional fabric I was waiting on for the backing a few days ago. I got the layers laid out and basted this past weekend:

I finally started the quilting. I decided on just straight-line quilting vertically and horizontally. Here’s the start of the vertical quilting:

I’ve now finished the vertical quilting:

I started on the horizontal quilting yesterday, but no pictures yet. I’m hoping to have it done by this weekend! Can’t wait to see it all done! ❤

In Progress – Heart Wall Quilt

After we took down our Christmas decorations, the wall where the fireplace is looked very naked and sad. I bought some heart shaped felt placemats from Michaels to hang up as a sort-of garland, but that didn’t quite do the trick for me. I decided to make a heart quilt for the lead-up to Valentine’s Day.

A while back, I ordered a fat quarter bundle of Lovebugs by Doodlebug Designs for Riley Blake. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it, but I knew I needed that fabric! 🙂 So, I was shopping from my stash and decided to use this fabric.

I measured the area where I wanted the quilt to hang and decided on a size, which gave me my square size to cut, which was 4.5 inch squares. I cut eight squares from each fat quarter, which was a few too many total, but I wanted to be sure I would have enough if I decided to make any changes.

I got the layout of the heart done today and here’s a picture:

I’m going to use a fabric from the Daysail line by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics called White on White Lollies. I have three choices for the backing and binding:

Lovebugs – Pink Grid

riley-blake-lovebugs-pink-love-words
Lovebugs – Pink Love Words

Lovebugs – Red Love Words

Which do you think I should use for the backing and binding? I think I’m leaning towards the Red Love Words, but I would love to get some other opinions! 🙂

Finished!! – Snapshots Quilt

My first finish of 2016!! I started this one on February 26, 2015 and finished it today, January 11, 2016. Here’s the front:

Robin Wilson at Ormond Beach Quilts quilted this one with a design called Lida and it is beautiful! She has a great eye for what pattern will look great on a quilt! 🙂

This was the first quilt I ever made with a pieced back. Here’s the lovely camera on the back:

And here’s my favorite block, the sewing machine, of course!

Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop for all these great patterns. I just love how this quilt came out! I’ve submitted it to be considered for the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival, so we’ll see what happens with that. 🙂

This is my first finish for the 2016 Finish-A-Long Q1!

In Progress – Snapshots Quilt – Top Complete

I finished the quilt top and the pieced back today! I can’t wait to get this one bundled up and off to my long-arm quilter! It’s so adorable! ❤

I put the borders on the top today after I finished sewing the back together. Aren’t those blocks cute?

The backing for the quilt is pieced as well. I’ve never made a quilt with a pieced back before, so I’m interested to see how it will look after it’s been quilted. I love that camera block! ❤

In Progress – Snapshots Quilt – Top Complete

I finished blocks 9, 10 and 11 a few days ago and I was getting ready to post a picture of the almost finished quilt top, when Fat Quarter Shop released the 12th pattern early! I figured I’d go ahead and get that one done and then post the whole completed top. 🙂 So, here it is and  I love it!

Snapshots Quilt

I’m waiting on one piece of fabric to arrive for the backing and then I can finish it up too and get it off to the long-arm quilter. Can’t wait to have this one finished up. 🙂

In Progress – Snapshots Quilt – Block #8 Like Riding A Bike

I wasn’t particularly looking forward to making this block because of all the pieces. My set of Alphabitties has A-Z and 0-9 and I had to label a few pieces with post-it notes on top of that! After we got done with homeschool this morning, I started cutting and labeling and sewing. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Keep calm and follow the directions, right? 🙂
