Finished!! – Dog Gone Cute Quilt & Blog Hop

First of all, I want to thank Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts for letting me participate in this blog hop! This quilt is so darn cute and I just love it! I’m going to recap my entire process from collecting supplies to the finished quilt. You can click on any of the photos for a larger version. 🙂

As I was deciding what fabrics to use, my fat quarter bundle of Hello Darling by Bonnie & Camille arrived. I decided this bundle would be perfect for this quilt and boy, was I right! I also used Hello Darling – Red Wildflowers for the backing, Hello Darling – Green Dainty for the binding and Kona Solids – Ash for the background.

Next, I printed out my pattern and reviewed all the instructions. I’m forever jumping into a project thinking I know what I’m doing and then completely messing everything up, so I wanted to be sure this time! 🙂

Time to make the blocks! I decided to make the 12-block version of the quilt, so I knew I needed one each of the pre-planned blocks and then I was going to have to make four more of my own. Here are the blocks I made:

Dog Gone Cute - Block #1

Dog Gone Cute - Block #2

Dog Gone Cute - Block #3

Dog Gone Cute - Block #4

Dog Gone Cute - Block #7

Dog Gone Cute - Block #12

After all my blocks were done, I laid them all out on my living room floor to determine the best layout. Of course, I had to text pictures to my husband at work to get an opinion from his architect brain. Here’s what we came up with:

Out of my background fabric, I cut the sashing and borders. I sewed the blocks into rows, added the sashing, sewed the rows together and added the border. Here’s my completed quilt top:

I had picked another fabric for the backing, but when I cut it, I messed up and cut it wrong. I’m a dummy! I ordered more fabric and managed to cut it correctly the second time. Fortunately, I’m working on another quilt that will work with the shorter backing. 🙂 I sandwiched the quilt and started thinking about how I wanted to quilt it. At first, I was going to go with diagonal straight line quilting, but then I decided to stitch in the ditch on the horizontal rows only. I added the binding and it’s done!

In Progress – Dog Gone Cute Quilt & Blog Hop

As soon as I saw this pattern over at Sew Fresh Quilts, I knew I would be making one. I’m using a fat quarter bundle of the new Hello Darling line by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics. I jumped on this bundle when it was first available for preorder on Fat Quarter Shop, but I had no idea what I was going to do with it. I’m sure no other quilter EVER does that, right? 😀 When it arrived though, I thought it would be perfect for this quilt and it is! Here’s a quick peek at my first block:

Dog Gone Cute - Block #1

Super adorable!! I’m already in love! 🙂

For the white portion of each dog’s face, I’m using the Cream Lollies fabric from the Hello Darling line. The pink part of the ears is Kona Solids – Carnation. The eyes and noses are Kona Solids – Black. The background is Kona Solids – Ash.

Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts is hosting a quilt along, a blog hop and a link party for the Dog Gone Cute pattern. I’m extremely excited to be included in the blog hop and I’ll post more about that later. You can get more information on her blog here and here. Join in and make a Dog Gone Cute quilt too!
